US STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS
Each state has a "statute of limitations" which is the time limit within which a lawsuit must be brought. If you delay past this time period, you will be prohibited from bringing a lawsuit to court.
Different types of cases have different statutes of limitation.
Typically, statutes of limitation run anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years, depending on the type of case. The "clock" usually starts when the event (personal injury, wrongful death, etc.) occurs.
VERY IMPORTANT
If you have a personal injury claim of any kind (medical malpractice, product liability, wrongful termination, discrimination, etc.), it is critical that you know what the statute of limitation is for your type of case.
The reason for that is, if your lawsuit is not brought within the time limit that applies to your case, your right to sue and recover damages is lost forever.
So, if you have a personal injury claim, don’t hesitate - contact a qualified attorney immediately. The attorney can tell you what the statute of limitations is for your case.
